Are there plasma computer monitors
So, I'm going to buy a new TV. It's also a Plasma. I'm a bit worried, though, because of burn-in. My last plasma had temporary image retention, but it wasn't bad. I also bought it second-hand off craigslist, so it had already been through that ' hour break-in period'.
I know a lot about TV's, but I don't have much experience with loads of Plasmas and static images to really be sure Also, do I have to do that hour break in period? I know it's better to be safe than sorry, but it's , and if I was using a model from with barely any problems, I'm sure it's only gotten better? What do you think? SwitchFC Weaksauce. It rarely goes into standby with a static image because normally I am either using the internet, watching a movie or playing a game, only time it gets to do standby is after I passed out during a netflix session.
Won't turning it off help prevent the image retention? Inu [H]ard Gawd. Joined Jun 29, Messages 2, Panasonic 42ST30 is what i use, it is a i believe. I do have image retention, from World of Warcraft. I had been lazy and not set any of my UI elements to transparent.
So i have my player name, which is in white, burned in to my screen. I've been told it'll fade with time. However when rolling the "scrolling bar" feature, which is suppose to reverse it, the white scrolling bar shows it. Response time is amazing 0.
It has a rated 19msms input lag. I don't feel it unless i try hard to. This is considered to be among lowest in HDTVs. Personal preference. Dirt 3 looks amazing. And i got a free blu-ray player. Which also came with a coupon to get a free 3D Avatar bluray. A 5-foot distance is suggested for PC monitor use at 42". Pastuch Gawd. Joined May 13, Messages Inu said:.
Click to expand I'll be getting the 50" ST30 version most likely, as well. Is the picture great on your 42ST30 when on PC? Also, the burn-in, how noticeable is it when doing other things?
There is some TIR temp image retention that happens with every plasma when a static image is displayed, but it's usually not permanent I guess. Mine wasn't on my old Plasma but it was also broken in. Ohmycaptain said:. Joined Aug 4, Messages First off, I own a plasma and love it to death, but there are things you need to be aware of. There are two types of burn-in: temporary and permanent. All plasmas, even plasmas, have temporary burn-in.

Also, anything to know about new plasmas for gaming? Sep 11, 6, 0 18, Plasma seriously sucks. And a high quality LCD display has just as good of picture and nearly as good of viewing angle. BlankInsanity Honorable. Oct 14, 1 11, So you don't have a sun tan after using your computer all day.
Not to mention the permenant and temporary burn-ins. Omegaclawe Honorable. Sep 28, 0 10, Actually, Plasma technology has moved to where it no longer burns in. Plasma is better suited to information displays like the ones in airports or Televisions. Completely head and shoulders above the 'standard' HDTV sitting next to it- it looked like you could reach in and pet the bird for instance.
I was flabbergasted I've been dying to remark about this, but didn't want to start a thread about it, so sorry for derailing this thread.
So, what you people suggest for a screen if you wanted to replace your TV and be able to connect you computer system to it to view DVDs, surf web, play games and of course watch TV. It would have to have enough resolution to read text for web surfing and approx 40" in size give or take a few inches so you could sit back about 10 feet on the couch.
Plasma is hungry and slow. It'll be a 'generation' or two before everything else isn't eating its lunch with better power use, better pixel fill, less indeed No ghosting, yadda. They seem great For desktop text resolution or gaming they're in over their heads right now. Perhaps to make an analogy It's great unless you know better and what to look at in comparison.
In general plasma screens are brighter and in general studies have shown that people prefer brighter screens and think they look "better". Thats why many stores selling tv's crank the brightness on their tv displays. To get people to buy the tvs. Also, plasma screens have major problems with burnin. I would guess within 6 months you would have the windows start bar burned in along with any desktop icons.
If you want a large computer display, get a dlp projector or a d-ila if you have the money. If you want a cheap solution, I have seen a 36" RCA non-hdtv display a x image with readable text standard font. Plasma technology is incredibly worthless IMHO. It has no potential to become a widespread technology due to its price.
Come to think of it, you're right- it was much brighter, which certainly helped it to look better. However, the clarity was no contest- it seriously looked like you could reach through the screen and pick up whatever it was displaying. I don't know, though- maybe it was entirely the brightness, but it sure didn't look like it.
Thanks for the input, though! The pixels have mostly unlit area. So the actual light you see comes from very small areas.
